I had a severe MH episode when I was about 10 years old during a routine outpatient surgery (I'm now 27). I was very lucky to have a doctor who recognized the signs of MH and saved my life.

I recently went to the doctor for what I thought was gonna be a test to tell me I have carpal tunnel in my wrist. Instead he ends up checking the muscles in my whole body and tells me I have very sensitive muscles, more so than anyone he has ever seen. He begins to press on various spots on my body and he's right, they all hurt. I always tell my husband I feel like and old woman (sore shoulders, sore back, thighs etc...) but I assumed it was because I am fairly active, and was just being a complainer.

I didnt think to even ask the doc if this could be related to my MH issue, but wondering if anyone else has had these types of symptoms. Either from just being MH susceptible or from muscle damage from an MH episode.

I am looking for any information on central core myopathy as it relates to Malignant Hyperthermia

RE: Megan I too have had severe pain like you do. I know exactly what you are going through! It's horrible pain!

I found out that I have MH when I was 4. I went in for a routine tonsillectomy and double myongotomy. Shortly after administered anesthesia I had a severe episode that almost cost me my life. I went into cardiac arrest four times then into a coma for a few days. I too, was extremely lucky to have had an anesthesiologist that recognized my reaction.

I have always had pain on and off throughout the years. When I was a child it would get so bad that I could not walk. Then it was only in my legs. Early yesterday morning, I started having the severe pain again. It's not only in my legs now, but in my hips, lower back and slightly in my arms. It's almost at that point where I can't walk. I'm a little nervous about this, because I have not had pains like this in my mid to upper body ever...

When you get your pain, does it kind of move around, stay in the same spot, or do you get it in the same spot(s) all the time? It's not very frequent that I get the pain. I guess I get the pain anywhere from one to five times in a like six months.

I have tried many medications to help the pain and find that a lot of it does not work. I don't know if you take anything for your pain, but I find that sometimes Ibuprofen works at 800mg or higher. I hope that helps a bit.

If you would like to chat some time about anything, please do feel free to send me a message. I am on Facebook and you can always send me an e-mail. CassiGaudio@yahoo.com. That also goes, to anyone who would like to discuss MH with me. I will try to help anyone with what I can.

I too have Malignant Htperthermia and have developed debilitating muscle and tendon pain with joint pain. I've been diagnosed with fifromyalga but now I'm wondering. Are ther any MH specialists out there that can help answer these questions? I am an RN and this diagnosis is new so I'm trying to be certain it's correct.

I am not an MD but I can tell you from my experience of what I did. I developed fibromyalgia after my MH episode. I also developed nueropothies and myopathies. I was examined extensively by a nuerologist and a rhumatologist. I found that it takes multiple medical fields to tell what is going on because there are so many symptoms. I would recommend you do the same to see what is going on.
